Nerf darts were flying during my son’s exciting 5th birthday party! The fun wasn’t just for kids either. Many adults enjoyed the shooting gallery and were actually more competitive than the kids!
I gave my son a lot of options for games and activities for his Nerf Party and the three he chose were:
Giant Nerf Darts
Let’s start off with some fun decorations! These giant Nerf darts were easy to make with blue pool noodles and orange duct tape. We used them for decoration but they could easily be used for games too! You could throw them like a javelin at targets or through hoops.
Painting with Nerf Darts
Although this is messy, it turned out pretty cool! I purchased some black canvases and put them all together in a big cardboard box. Then each kid dipped the dart in paint and fired at the canvases. The splatter patterns looked cool and the bright colors popped against the black.
I chose to have all the canvases together so the kids were painting them all at once. Then each kid took a canvas home that they painted together. You could easily have each kid paint their own and choose their own colors.
The Nerf Blaster we used cleaned up easily with just a wet paper towel. I did throw away the darts we used for painting.
Shooting Gallery
We had planned to run the shooting gallery as an obstacle course in the yard, but the rain had other plans for us. I think it turned out better because more adults participated and I don’t think they would have wanted to do an obstacle course.
I set up three areas to shoot targets and one window for the suction cup darts. Each person got 10 darts to shoot whichever targets they wanted. I didn’t keep scores but that didn’t stop my family from getting competitive!
The shooting areas were a step ladder with cups and rubber ducks stacked up, a set of balloons hanging from a string, and, the most challenging area, a set of small barrels on a high ledge.
I also used white board markers to make a target on the window. The kids used the suction cup darts for the window target.
Nerf “Punch” Board
Last year, my son had an Avengers themed party with a Hulk Smash punch board. He loved the punch board a lot and asked for another one for this party.
A twist to this punch board was that instead of punching the cups, each kid would shoot a dart to break open the tissue paper. When I tested this I found you did need a Nerf Blaster that shoots the darts hard (a bow-style didn’t work as well).
My son picked out candy to put into each cup. I covered the cups with two layers of tissue paper and used a rubber band to secure it closed. The cups were then hot glued in a target/circle design on a tri-fold board.
I used my cricut to make the Nerf logo and downloaded the Nerf-style font to create the other signs.
